A day in the life of Bill

I spent my day divided between flying, sitting in the dentist chair and attending a 5 and a half hour meeting. The day ended with my old commute home and a stop at Wahoo's for dinner since Chris has class tonight.

First things first, I think I may have a hopefully temporary partial loss of hearing. I had a ringing in my ears last night as I was trying to get to sleep. This morning I noticeably had trouble hearing out of my right ear with a small amount of pain as well. It wasn't pressure, just sounded like I had cotton in one ear. Throughout the day I've had in both ears the feeling like certain frequencies were somewhat muffled. I could hear most things fine, but there would be pieces of songs that didn't sound right. I seem to have holes in a few mid range frequency bands and maybe some in the low range. Weird. If it's still a problem on Monday I'll be going to see a doctor. Enough about that, on to some more boring stuff.

It was time to do full mouth x-rays on this visit to the dentist. Lucky for me, the ones that dig into the soft tissue under your tongue were messed up and I had to do them twice. It was nice to see Dr. Kitchen and his crew again. They're so friendly. If anyone needs a good dentist, give them a call at 858-558-1946. I fly 600 miles to see them if that's any indication of how much I like their service.

Mariana was sweet enough to drive me to the airport this morning. It was tough saying goodbye for the first time in quite a while. She's come with me on all my trips since we moved in together. Based on her sage advice, I arrived at the perfect time. I grabbed a muffin and a iced mocha and only had to wait in the A line for 10 minutes before I was on the plane. Row seven, the closest to the front I've ever flown, I think. Not sure why.

Speaking of Southwest and getting an A boarding pass. I still need to write a quick Perl script that I can run from cron to automatically check me in at Midnight given my reservation number. It's too much trouble to stay up that late if I have to get up before 6AM to make my flight. The only trouble with writing the script is that I would only be able to test it every time I had a flight to check into. I guess I'll have to try it when I have a late flight one day.

My loooooong meeting today was interspersed with people trying to explain that they wanted me to stop by their office or call them with sign language through the conference room window. The meeting started with an excellent lunch from Gourmet Bagger. We pretty much jumped right into a discussion about the advantages of a hub and spoke messaging model with local message brokers. We hammered out a few evolutionary designs. It was pretty productive in the end.

Anyhow, I have another 45 minutes free that I think I'm going to spend coding up my new metrics agent. As exciting as Zipingo and blog entires are...

Hunger

Today I haven't felt like eating anything. The only logical solution has been to eat everything. I can't wait to get back to work and yet I can't stand the thought of working.

Big News

I am very excited to announce that I am getting married to the most wonderful woman in the world. Mariana is the love of my life and I will declare that in front of a small group of family and friends on October 15th. I asked her to marry me on July 1st and she said yes. Yay!
